Feliks Audio Euforia Review

If you love headphones, you’ve probably heard of the boutique tube company Feliks Audio. If you are unfamiliar with the business, Feliks Audio handcrafts some of the finest tube amplifiers available today. All the components are designed and put together by Feliks Audio at their Polish factory in Lubliniec. The business is obsessive about electronics and releasing products that meet the highest audio standards.

The Feliks Audio Euforia, the company’s premier tube amplifier, has garnered praise from publications for audiophiles all over the world. Focal, a leading manufacturer of high-end headphones, mandates that Euforia be used at all trade shows and demo stations. Find out why the Euforia is making such a fuss and if it’s worth the $2,000 price tag.

Design

It’s not well known that Feliks Audio creates the most attractive tube amplifiers. Instead of emphasizing aesthetics, the company concentrates on R&D and making sure they use the best components. The tubes stand proudly on top of a durable matte black aluminum chassis that houses the Euforia circuitry. You’ll notice that the Euforia is surprisingly heavy for its size at 13 lbs. This generally denotes higher quality, so it’s not a bad thing at all.

Feliks Audio can be learned by looking under the hood. They pay exquisite attention to detail. They spared no expense when it came to incorporating the finest parts, and the circuitry is flawless. Feliks Audio chose 100% pure silver signal wiring in a Teflon jacket, so even the wiring is of the highest caliber. To ensure that every link in the chain is of the highest caliber, they installed Dale and Caddock resistors along with Mundorf and Nichicon capacitors.

Feliks Audio Euforia Connections

Audio Connections

For the best connectivity and audio quality, all Euforia inputs and outputs are gold-plated. One RCA input and one RCA pre-amp line out are located on the amp’s back. The power switch and the Cross-Feed switch (I’ll explain shortly) are both located on the back. A 14-inch headphone output and sizable rotary volume control are located on the front panel.

Euforia Tubes

The Euforia has a total of four tubes. 2 power tubes and 2 driver tubes. Depending on your budget, Feliks Audio offers three options for the driver tubes when you purchase a Euforia. PsVane CV-181 Mk2 “Gold” is the most expensive model, followed by PsVane CV-181 Mk2 “Silver” and PsVane 6SN7. Feliks Audio will give you two 6N13S (NOS) power tubes. You might as well splash out on the PsVane CV-181 Mk2 “Gold” since the price difference between the least expensive and most expensive option is only €200 (roughly $227 in March 2019).

However, if you want to save money, you can use your own tubes, so that route might be the best choice. The tubes that work with the Euforia are listed below:

  • Driver tubes: 6N8S, CV181, ECC32, 5692, 6F8G
  • Power tubes: 6080, 5998, 6N5P, 6N5S, ECC230, 7236, CV2523

Since the Euforia has an automatic bias circuit, tuning is not necessary when changing tubes.

It’s important to keep in mind that these amps run hot, with the tubes reaching as high as 150°C if you’ve never used one before. Do not attempt to handle the tubes for at least 20 minutes after powering down because it takes the tubes about 15 minutes to fully warm up before cooling down again. Additionally, place the Euforia in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating.

The Euforia has a run-in period of between 30 and 50 hours before the amp achieves optimal audio quality, according to Feliks Audio’s user manual.

Cross-Feed Technology

Feliks Audio Cross-Feed is one of the Euforia’s more intriguing features. The sound stage is wider and more realistic thanks to this technology. The Euforia blends frequencies to create a more “forward-facing” sound stage instead of a rigid left/right separation. Comparable to finding the ideal speaker position where the left and right speakers naturally blend together to create the impression that the sound is coming from all directions. In the past, it was challenging to accomplish this with headphones, with the exception of Focal’s pricey, high-end audiophile models.

Any pair of headphones can now take advantage of this cutting-edge technology thanks to Feliks Audio’s success in creating this effect within the Euforia’s electronics. Even better, a switch is offered so you can choose whether to use Cross-Feed while listening to audio.

Sound

Everyone finds true love at this point. I have not heard anyone criticize the sound of the Euforia; it is simply sublime. The tonality is balanced and clear, probably the best in its price range category. In fact, it is probably superior to tube amps that cost two or even three times as much. It’s difficult to say that the Euforia produces a “typical tube sound” because it both does and doesn’t at the same time because the sound is so warm and smooth. It definitely belongs to a different class! You quickly understand why Focal suggests using a Euforia with their headphones.

The Euforia’s low-end response is flat and accurate. The tuning has not been altered in any way by Feliks Audio. The sound you receive is incredibly accurate, which you may or may not like. The Euforia’s low-end is great if you prefer a pure sound, and if you’d prefer more bass, you can adjust it with some EQ if you like. Since I value a true, flat sound, the Euforia is ideal for me.

The midrange’s clarity and dynamics are exceptional, especially when used with a set of Focal headphones. Vocals don’t sit as proud or upfront as some may prefer, but this isn’t in any way a flaw in the sound. I would definitely suggest giving the Euforia a listen if you prefer a mid-range with a more forward sound because you may be pleasantly surprised by its distinctive sound.

The Euforia shines brightest in the treble frequencies. The clear detail and tone produce an engaging and thrilling listening experience that is comfortable and easy on the ears.

The noise is the last. Tubes are frequently problematic, but not with the Euforia. This amplifier is extremely quiet. The internal circuitry has been superbly designed by Feliks Audio to keep noise at or below zero.

  • Matched pair of power tubes 6N13S (NOS)
  • Matched pair of driver tubes (depending on your choice between PsVane CV-181 Mk2 “Gold”, “Silver” or PsVane 6SN7)

Conclusion

The Euforia provides exceptional value for money even at its high price point. As I stated earlier in this review, the Euforia can easily compete with tube amps costing two or three times as much while offering superior audio quality. Simply amazing is the work Feliks Audio has done with Cross-Feed. The technology is effectively implemented and in no way a marketing ploy. The fact that you can turn off Cross-Feed is fantastic, and it works really well. This amp is so fantastic and is reasonably priced given the quality you get. The Euforia is unquestionably one for you if you enjoy the natural, flat sound of tube amplifiers.
