Wattage

When it comes to purchasing speakers, the most common parameter used is wattage. The audio power transmitted from an amplifier to a speaker is measured in watts. The wattage of your speakers is crucial since it controls how loud they are. The larger the crowd and venue you can fill, the more watts you have. Watts aren’t a unit of measurement for volume – decibels are (dB).

When shopping for a PA system, keep in mind that there are only two wattage requirements to consider: RMS (root mean squared) and peak output. The average power output of an amplifier is RMS, while the maximum power output is peak.

A Program Power (P.M.P.O.) metric may be included by some manufacturers. This is an irrelevant parameter that should be ignored. Only look at RMS and Peak, with RMS being the most essential measure because it represents the nominal/average power output of your speakers.

Decibels (dB)

Frequency Response

Gain vs Volume

A pad is useful for instruments that produce a lot of gain, such as guitars, keyboards, and occasionally vocals. When the input signal is too high to gain down any further, a pad is used to lower the level and give you more control.
