Audioengine A5+ Speaker System Review
Speaker Design
Audioengine’s speakers are famous, not only due to their impeccable sound quality but also because they’re designed beautifully too! The Audioengine A5+ speaker cabinet is made from a medium-dense fiberboard, providing a beautiful finish with durability to last for decades. You have the option of three finishes: satin black, hi-gloss white, or natural bamboo.
This speaker is perfect for the audiophile looking to add an aesthetically pleasing piece of audio hardware to their office. The low-frequency driver made with Kevlar offers excellent durability while adding premium aesthetics. The silk tweeters are mounted stylishly to add design features that will delight any listener who wants great sound quality without sacrificing style.
On the left speaker, you’ll find a volume control and power indicator. This is a definite improvement from having it on the rear (as is seen on previous models like A2+). The left speaker also houses the amplifier, power supply, and inputs for both speakers. The right passive speaker connects to the left via a 12-foot 16 gauge wire that Audioengine kindly supplies with this system.
The A5+ also comes with a simple remote control that allows you to put the speakers into sleep mode, adjust volume, or mute. This is especially useful if you’re installing them as stereo speakers in your preferred living space and don’t want to walk over every time you need to make an adjustment.
Connectors & Inputs
The Audioengine A5+ allows for stereo RCA and ⅛-inch AUX inputs with a stereo RCA pre-output. There is no Bluetooth on this specific model but if you’d like Bluetooth, there is a fully wireless version of the A5+ that features Bluetooth V5.0.
The Audioengine A5+ speaker has a USB charge output, so you can charge your mobile device from the back of the speaker. This is a great feature for desktop PC speakers as it means you don’t have to run your charger cable to a wall outlet. A small but appreciated convenience! The connections are also all gold-plated, providing a superior transfer of signal.

Sound Quality
The sound quality of the Audioengine A5+ speakers is going to blow you away! When listening to any of the music genres, you can feel like you are in a live concert hall with these speakers. The bass is impressive and low-end sounds terrific; it really brings out new elements that I did not realize were contained within the song before! For anyone looking for an upgrade from their built-in laptop speaker system or who wants something more powerful than your standard desktop speakers, this product will exceed all expectations!
Each speaker features a 5-inch low-frequency driver with a ¾-inch tweeter. The built-in amplifier delivers an impressive 50W RMS and 75W Peak to each speaker. If you’re using these as PC speakers at desk height, be prepared for some chest-thumping bass with excellent definition and a nice punch. The low end is chunky with great sound quality that makes any listening experience excitingly fun!
The Audioengine A5+ mid-range is forward and clear, which makes vocals, instruments, and special effects come alive. The highs are bright without ever sounding harsh; this characteristic is important for a near-field speaker!
If you love music, games, and great sound quality for your movies or TV shows, the Audioengine A5+ Speaker System can do it all with ease. At under $500, they are an excellent buy that will leave you wondering how something so good exists at such a reasonable price point.

Speaker Placement
If you’re looking to get the most out of your A5+ speakers, it’s important that where they are set up properly. The speaker should have roughly 6 inches on either side and behind them for the best bass sound quality. So, if mounting on a desk, try getting those tweeters at eye level or closer to you for better clarity in hearing everything these bad boys can offer!
My own experience with the Audioengine A5+ speakers is that they are best set approximately 6 feet apart, angled into your listening position. I usually place the speaker around until it sounds correct to me, but this distance works well as a starting point. It’s also important for you to be positioned in the center of both speakers while testing their positioning, so keep this in mind when setting up.
