The Sony Extra Bass line of headphones and speakers enjoys tremendous popularity. The products are renowned for the powerful bass boost they provide, which increases how exciting and enjoyable listening to music is. The Sony SRS-XB41 is just big enough to make serious sound while being small enough to be regarded as a portable speaker.

The SRS-XB41 has an IP67 rating, which, like IPX7, protects the speaker for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1m. The SRS-XB41 floats as well, making it safe to use even in deep water. The SRS-XB41 is an excellent speaker for the beach because it is protected against salt water, which is what is most impressive about it.

Dual 2.2″ drivers in the SRS-XB41 produce an impressive 30W of power. A passive bass radiator is also present to enhance bass response. A small to medium-sized room can be easily filled with high-quality sound using this speaker. The SRS-XB41 exhibits very little distortion or breakup, even at loud volumes.

Sound

The SRS-audio XB41’s performance is excellent, as you might anticipate from Sony. This speaker has amazing bass! superior to any other similar-sized portable Bluetooth speaker. The SRS-XB41 speaker is exciting and enjoyable to listen to thanks to its nice punchy bass sound. For a small speaker, the mid-range and highs are upfront and deliver excellent clarity.

Additionally, the SRS-XB41 has a LIVE mode that is designed to enhance speaker clarity and expand the sound stage. The audio separation is slightly improved as a result, but I think the normal mode sounds better.

Controls

There are many buttons on the SRS-XB41 that can be used to control different aspects of the speaker and sound. The play/pause, volume up, volume down, LIVE mode, and on/off/Bluetooth buttons are located on the main panel. The play/pause button on the SRS-XB41 also serves as the call control for incoming calls. An NFC tag is located on the top panel as well for the quick pairing of NFC-enabled devices.

There are three more buttons on the back, hidden behind a watertight seal. The first is a battery button that displays the amount of battery life left. When pairing additional SRS-XB41 speakers, you have a few options provided by the WPC and ADD buttons. While the ADD button allows you to pair two SRS-XB41 speakers in stereo, the WPC button allows you to connect multiple SRS-XB41 speakers—up to 100+, according to Sony.

One of the coolest-looking waterproof Bluetooth speakers on the market, the SRS-XB41 features LED lighting and a futuristic design aesthetic. With LED strobes mounted on the speaker drivers, an LED strip surrounds the speaker grille. The lights pulse and change in time with the music, giving your listening experience a festive feel. The lights can be turned off, which obviously conserves battery life.

Battery

A built-in battery in the SRS-XB41 has a 24-hour battery life. This assumes that the speaker is set to 50% volume and that you don’t use the lights. The SRS-XB41 battery can be recharged with either a micro USB cable or an AC adapter. The battery will obviously charge more quickly with an AC adapter, but if you only have a laptop or power bank to charge, the micro USB port is more practical. Even better, the SRS-XB41 has a USB power output so you can use it to charge your mobile devices.

What You Will Receive

  • Sony SRS-XB41
  • AC power adapter

Conclusion

The Sony SRS-XB41 should be at the top of your list if you’re looking for a really entertaining waterproof party speaker with powerful sound and even a light show. With this incredible speaker, you can create a large sound system by pairing multiple speakers or another SRS-XB41 in stereo. With an IP67 waterproof rating and the capacity to withstand saltwater, the SRS-XB41 is also incredibly tough. The SRS-XB41 will be your best option if you’re looking for the best waterproof Bluetooth speaker.

2. JBL Charge 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Specs & Features

Power30 W
Battery20 Hours
WaterproofIPX7

These JBL products frequently rank among the top 3, if not first. One of the most well-liked waterproof Bluetooth speakers on the market right now is the JBL Charge 4 and for good reason.

The majority of the JBL Charge 4’s cylindrical design is covered in a woven rubberized mesh. With an IPX7 waterproof rating, the Charge 4 is protected for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 m. When submerged in water, the speaker floats and even keeps playing music. When submerged, the water around the speaker vibrates, which is really cool to watch. Don’t expect to throw the speaker in the pool and have it float around playing music because the Charge 4 sounds awful in the water.

The single driver in the Charge 4 is accompanied by two bass radiators that each produce 30W of power. One thing to keep in mind is that the Charge 4 only has speakers on one side. At first glance, the speaker appears to have front and back speakers that would provide 360-degree sound, but this is untrue.

Sound

The Charge 4 can be used as background music by the pool and is loud enough to fill a small room in an apartment or dorm. The 30W speaker can be heard loud enough to start a party with 6–8 people, but it won’t likely be loud enough for any more.

The Charge 4 sounds excellent for a small portable Bluetooth speaker, as to be expected from JBL. The two bass radiators’ assistance is largely responsible for the reasonable amount of bass that is present. The Charge 4 excels at producing high-quality mid- and high-frequency intelligibility. Excellent clarity and a lot of bass make up the overall sound quality. amazing for a speaker of this size.

The speaker does have some difficulty at maximum volume. The highs and mids start to sound distorted, and the bass gets woolly. Despite this, the Charge 4 is quite loud, so I wouldn’t think it necessary to turn it up all the way.

Inputs and Controls

The Charge 4 supports 1/8-inch AUX and Bluetooth. You shouldn’t use the 1/8-inch AUX input if you’ll be near water because it is hidden by a watertight seal. The Bluetooth on the speaker is version 4.2, with a 33-foot range.

With play/pause, skip, and volume adjustment, the Charge 4 grants some control over a Bluetooth device that has been paired. It’s convenient to be able to use your phone while in the pool.

Pairing

The Charge 4 has a speaker pairing feature like many Bluetooth speakers do these days. You can link a second Bluetooth speaker to the Charge 4 using JBL Connect. JBL Connect is cool because it doesn’t just let you use another Charge 4 as a speaker. With the JBL Connect feature, you can pair with any JBL Flip, Charge, or Extreme. Make sure the JBL device has the JBL Connect button, which is typically located next to the power button, as older models may not have this feature.

Battery

The 20-hour battery for Charge 4 is the most impressive. This was recorded with a continuous volume setting of 50%. Obviously, playing at a louder volume will drain the battery faster. 50% is a respectable volume level, ideal for background music. On the back, there is a USB-C output that you can use to charge your smartphone. Once more, this will shorten battery life.

What You Will Receive

  • JBL Charge 4
  • Type C USB cable
  • Warranty Card

Conclusion

Why is the JBL Charge 4 so well-liked? It is an IPX7-rated Bluetooth speaker with great sound quality that is lightweight, portable, and most importantly, completely waterproof. This waterproof Bluetooth speaker works well for providing background music in dormitories, at BBQs, or even by the pool. The speaker is audible, but not so loud that it will disturb the neighbors. I believe the Charge 4 offers excellent value for the quality you receive at just under $180.

3. Bose SoundLink Micro Bluetooth Speaker

Specs & Features

Power7.5 W
Battery6 Hours
WaterproofIPX7
Bluetooth30 ft

The Bose SoundLink Micro is a speaker worth considering if you’re looking for a palm-sized, waterproof, ultra-portable Bluetooth speaker. This speaker is incredibly lightweight at just 10.24oz, which is comparable to some over-ear headphones.

Despite being IPX7-rated, the SoundLink Micro does not float. Therefore, the speaker may be harmed if the SoundLink Micro is dropped into water that is deeper than 1 m. Additionally, there’s a good chance you won’t be able to see the SoundLink Micro to retrieve from the bottom if the water is murky, such as in an ocean, dam, or river.

The entire speaker of the SoundLink Micro has a silicone rubber coating. In addition to making the speaker waterproof, this gives the SoundLink Micro a more upscale appearance and feel. A silicon strap that can be used to secure the SoundLink Micro to a bike handle, backpack strap or even a hook in the shower is located on the back of the Bluetooth speaker.

Sound

The power output for the SoundLink Micro is 7.5W. Although the SoundLink Micro is reasonably loud for its size, I would say that in order to get a good audio reference, you need to be close to the speaker. The SoundLink Micro has a nice little thump to it, which is more than any other palm-sized Bluetooth speaker on the market, despite the lack of bass. The speaker has good clarity because the midrange and highs are clear. Again, you can enjoy the good sound when listening within a few feet, but beyond that, the SoundLink Micro starts to lose some of its personality. This isn’t a problem; it’s what you’d anticipate from a speaker of this size.

Controls

There are five buttons altogether on the SoundLink Micro. These include the volume up, down, power, Bluetooth pairing, and multifunction buttons. You can play, pause, and skip tracks forward and backward using the multifunction. The SoundLink Micro has an internal microphone that enables speakerphone functionality. You have complete control over the speakerphone, including the ability to put calls on hold, thanks to the multifunction button. For voice commands, you can also activate Google Assistant or Siri.

Battery

A 6-hour battery life is built into the SoundLink Micro. When your battery is 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, or fully charged, a 5-LED battery life indicator lets you know.

What You Will Receive

  • Bose SoundLink Micro
  • Micro USB charging cable

Conclusion

The Bose SoundLink Micro is currently the best Bluetooth speaker available if you’re looking for something extremely small and waterproof. This speaker has a better sound quality, in my opinion than the JBL Clip, another extremely portable palm-sized speaker. Remember that these tiny Bluetooth speakers are best used as personal speakers only.

This is not the kind of Bluetooth speaker you can use to play background music at a reasonable volume while having a barbecue. This little speaker is incredibly versatile thanks to the better-than-expected performance of the built-in speakerphone. The Bose SoundLink Micro is a great option for those looking to take their music with them on the go and costs less than $100.

4. JBL Flip 5 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Speakers Reviewed Score 4-7
JBL-Flip-5-Waterproof-Portable-Bluetooth-Speaker-Speakers-Reviewed

Specs & Features

Power20 W
Battery12 Hours
WaterproofIPX7
Bluetooth33 ft

The JBL Flip 5 is the perfect option if you like the JBL Charge 4 but desire something a little bit smaller. Though slightly smaller and lighter than the Charge 4, the Flip 5 is nearly as potent. The Flip 5 has the same IPX7 rating as the Charge 4 and floats.

There is only one 20W driver in the Flip 5. The speakers are only on one side, just like the Charge 4, so you don’t get 360° sound as you do with some rival models. To enhance the low-end frequency response, the Flip 5 has two bass radiators at either end.

Controls

The Flip 5 has a woven rubber exterior and rubber silicone trim on the sides, similar to the Charge 4. An on/off switch, battery indicator, and the JBL Connect + button—which I’ll discuss shortly—are located on the top of the speaker. The play/pause, volume up, volume down, and Bluetooth pairing buttons are located on the speaker grille.

JBL Connect + differs slightly from JBL Connect in general. As long as the speaker had the JBL Connect feature, you could pair it with another JBL Connect speaker. You can now pair more than 100 JBL Connect + speakers at once thanks to JBL Connect +. You could essentially create a serious little PA system if you have several friends who own JBL Connect + speakers. The negative? Regular JBL Connect is incompatible with JBL Connect +. JBL has really let us down with this. I believe they still should have allowed you to pair the two Connect versions once.

Sound

The Flip 5’s bass response is comparable to the Charge 4’s and has a nice punch. For a speaker this size, the midrange, and highs are clear but lack detail. Despite this, the Flip 5 is enjoyable to listen to, especially considering how much bass this tiny speaker can produce.

Battery

The built-in battery on the Flip 5 has a 12-hour battery life. In about 3.5 hours, the battery will fully recharge from empty. Unfortunately, the Flip 5’s size prevents it from having a mobile device charging output like the Charge 4.

What You Will Receive

  • JBL Flip 5
  • Type C USB cable
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Warranty Card

Conclusion

The JBL Flip 5 is ideal for dorm rooms and other compact spaces where background music may be necessary. The speaker is small enough to fit in a backpack or even a woman’s handbag, making it ideal for people who are constantly on the go. Additionally, a hook with a supplied string is included so that you can hang your Flip 5 from a bike, backpack, or shower hook.

More so than most competitors of a similar size, the JBL Flip 5 sounds fantastic for its size, with a good amount of bass and clarity. One of the most reasonably priced premium Bluetooth speakers available is the Flip 5, which has a suggested retail price of less than $100.

5. OontZ Angle 3

Power10 W

The adage “dynamite comes in little packages” certainly applies to the Oontz Angle 3. You can actually hold the Oontz Angle 3 speaker between two fingers because it is so small. You wouldn’t anticipate the amount of power the Oontz Angle 3 delivers from a speaker this size. It’s quite bizarre!

The Angle 3 has an IPX5 waterproof rating, meaning it can withstand water sprays but not submersion. It’s fine to sit next to the pool, but not in it.

A robust 10W speaker driver and a bass radiator are both included in the Angle 3. The radiator has a good amount of power and can shake the Angle 3 around at loud volumes. This speaker will fall off if it is placed too close to the end of a table, so take care. In order to prevent the speaker from moving around too much when playing it loud, you’ll need to find a way to secure it.

Sound

The mid-range and high frequencies of the Oontz Angle 3 have a passable sound. Expect low quality from a speaker this size, but the response is clear enough for music listening. Having said that, listening to the Oontz Angle 3 is a lot of fun. You can’t help but love the Angle 3 because of how impressive the little speaker is.

Controls

A small control panel with several buttons to manage your paired Bluetooth device is located on one end of the Oontz Angle 3. The typical play/pause and volume control buttons are present, along with a multifunction button for Bluetooth pairing and call management for the speakerphone that is built into the device.

The Angle 3 has a small power button on the side, with the 1/8-inch AUX and micro USB ports below and protected by a watertight cover.

OontZ Angle 3 Plus

The Angle 3 Plus is a choice to take into account if you like the Angle 3 but wish it had more power. The Angle 3 Plus has a marginally better bass response than the Angle 3, but it is only marginally larger than the Angle 3. In my opinion, the Angle 3 Plus’s aesthetic design is marginally superior to that of the Angle 3. The Angle 3 Plus is unquestionably superior to the Angle 3 and is only a few dollars more expensive.

What You Will Get

  • OontZ Angle 3
  • Micro USB charging cable

Conclusion

The Oontz Angle 3 won’t take home any awards for sound quality. But the Angle 3 is fantastic in terms of character. If you only need a speaker for background music in your room, dorm, or even in the shower, the sound quality is adequate. The Angle 3 might be a little underpowered for outdoor barbecues or hanging out with friends. The Angle 3 is a fantastic personal speaker, and I would buy one to use while traveling or working alone at a computer. A good speaker for watching movies or playing games on your phone would be the Angle 3.

6. Anker Soundcore Boost Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Speakers Reviewed Score 4-7

Specs & Features

Power20 W
Battery12 Hours
WaterproofIPX5
Bluetooth66 ft

Anker has cemented its position as the market leader for inexpensive Bluetooth speakers in recent years. With thousands of reviews, the Anker Soundcore 2 is arguably one of the best-selling waterproof Bluetooth speakers of all time.

The Soundcore Boost, the most recent iteration of the original model and one of the smallest in the Anker line, has an IPX5 waterproof rating, effectively making the speaker splashproof. The Soundcore Boost should not be immersed in water or exposed to excessive moisture.

Two 10W speaker drivers are used in the Soundcore Boost to produce 20W of power. To enhance the low-end frequency response, twin subwoofers are positioned between the two drivers. A surprising amount of bass is produced by the Soundcore Boost.

Sound

The Soundcore Boost can be set fairly loudly; distortion only becomes noticeable when the volume is close to 100%. The speaker produces more than enough sound to easily fill a small space or even the outdoors at a barbecue.

For a Bluetooth speaker under $60, the Soundcore Boost’s audio quality exceeds expectations. The Soundcore Boost comes close to premium JBL, Bose, or Sony models, despite not being quite as good. The midrange and highs have excellent clarity, and the bass response is also good. As previously mentioned, you won’t hear any breakup or distortion unless the speaker is turned up extremely loud. I don’t see any reason to go above the Soundcore Boost’s nice, full sound at 70-80%.

The caller can hear you and the call sound quality is acceptable, but your voice does seem a little strained and not entirely clear. To ensure that the other person can hear you clearly, it is best to speak almost directly into the Soundcore Boost. The speakerphone is perfect for making brief phone calls.

Controls

A 5-button control panel with buttons for power, Bluetooth pairing, volume up, volume down, and play/pause is located on top of the Soundcore Boost. When the Soundcore Boost’s battery life falls below 10%, a red LED battery life indicator will flash.

The play/pause button has multiple uses, including managing the speakerphone that is integrated into the device. You have the option to take, end, reject, or even put a call on hold when receiving one. When no audio is playing, holding play or pause for one second will awaken Siri or Google for voice commands. It’s wonderful to see such high-end functionality in a low-cost speaker.

What You Will Receive

  • Anker Soundcore Boost
  • Micro USB charging cable

Conclusion

The Anker Soundcore Boost is the perfect waterproof Bluetooth speaker if you’re looking for high-end features at a reasonable price. The Anker line has thousands of positive reviews and is very well-liked. You must acknowledge that this speaker is on a budget and won’t have the same audio quality as more expensive models. Having said that, unless you conduct a comparison test, you won’t really be able to tell the difference.

The Soundcore Boost is the ideal travel companion because it is incredibly lightweight and small, fitting into a backpack, laptop bag, or even a handbag. The Anker Soundcore Boost offers excellent value at a low cost for less than $60.

7. Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2

Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2

Anything from Ultimate Ears (UE) will be a good choice if you’re looking for something trendy. With silicon rubber on the top and bottom and a woven rubberized exterior covering the speakers, the UE Wonderboom 2 resembles a cylindrical soda can. Even the UE Wonderboom 2’s buttons and logo add style and functionality to this waterproof Bluetooth speaker.

The Wonderboom 2 is surprisingly loud and potent despite its diminutive size, and it can easily fill a small to medium-sized room. The Wonderboom 2’s drivers are placed on opposite sides, providing 360° sound, which is fantastic. Excellent if you want to put the speaker in the middle of the space so that everyone can hear the music.

The 360° sound ensures that no one is excluded from outdoor gatherings at the BBQ or pool. If you have two Wonderboom 2s, you can pair them together to spread the party out and increase the volume. A stereo left/right sound profile is also possible with this pairing.

Sound

With no discernible bass boost, the UE Wonderboom 2 is a well-balanced speaker. Having said that, the speaker has a punchy low end and enough bass to suit most tastes. Clear and present are the mids and highs. It’s best to avoid using the Wonderboom 2 at maximum volume because there does seem to be some breakup and distortion across the frequency spectrum at high volumes.

Controls

The Wonderboom 2 has a sizable plus/minus button on the side that not only looks cool but also controls the volume. Three additional buttons—one for power, one for Bluetooth, and one bearing the UE logo—are located on top of the speaker. You can play and pause music using the multi-function button, and you can fast-forward a track by double tapping the button. Holding the UE button on both Wonderbooms will start the pairing process if you have two of them.

If you’re looking for a Bluetooth speaker with a 1/8-inch input but the Wonderboom 2 only has Bluetooth input, you might want to take a look at one of the other options in this article.

Durability

You’ll be relieved to learn that Ultimate Ears has made breaking portable Bluetooth speakers difficult with the Wonderboom 2 if you have a tendency to do so. The speaker is shock-, mud-, and IP67-rated to a depth of one meter. Numerous videos from reviews show people soaking their UE Wonderboom 2 in mud before hosing it off so it can continue to function normally. The speaker will still function properly even if it is dropped onto a hard concrete floor. Personally, I would hold off on testing this and be content with the knowledge that my UE Wonderboom 2 can endure if the need arises.

What You Will Receive

  • Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2
  • Micro USB charging cable

Conclusion

The UE Wonderboom 2 is a great option if you’re looking for a dependable waterproof Bluetooth speaker. This stylish little speaker can take a serious beating without losing sound quality or style. Since there is no speakerphone or 1/8-inch AUX input, it might be wiser to look at other options if you need these features. On the other hand, the UE Wonderboom 2 is the speaker for you if all you want to do is make noise in style.

8. DOSS SoundBox Pro

DOSS-SoundBox-Pro-Speakers-Reviewed

Specs & Features

Power20 W
Battery20 Hours
WaterproofIPX5
Bluetooth66 ft

The DOSS SoundBox Pro is one of the most impressive low-cost waterproof Bluetooth speakers available. Even though it is small and light, the SoundBox Pro can compete with brands like JBL and Sony. The SoundBox Pro has an IPX5 waterproof rating, which essentially means it is splashproof. So don’t try to drown this speaker!

Dual 10W drivers and two passive bass radiators give the SoundBox Pro’s combined power output of 20W. We’ll talk about the bass boost feature in a moment. When compared to its size, the SoundBox Pro is incredibly powerful, competing with the JBL Flip 4 and Charge 3. It is simple to use this speaker to fill a small to medium-sized room with sound, and you can even connect multiple SoundBox Pro speakers to create a larger sound.

Sound

The SoundBox Pro has really impressive audio quality. It performs impressively for a cheap Bluetooth speaker, rivaling more expensive models in terms of quality. When the bass boost is turned on, the bass is very punchy and produces much more bottom end than the JBL Flip 4. Similar to the Flip 4, but not quite as distinct, are the mid-range and highs. The SoundBox Pro is the better option when compared to the Flip 4 because it costs half as much. When pushed close to 100%, the SoundBox Pro does begin to distort a little, which seems to be typical of all Bluetooth speakers this size.

LED Lights

A LED panel that changes through 6 different colors and 3 display patterns is located around the speaker grille. This can be set to stay on one solid color, fade gently with the music, or pulse in time with it. The LED effect is really cool, especially at night.

Speakerphone

Additionally, the SoundBox Pro has a speakerphone that actually performs quite well. However, the call quality is sufficient to support a conversation. You do need to be close by for the person on the other end of the line to hear you clearly.

Inputs and Controls

On top of the SoundBox Pro, there are several buttons. The standard play/pause and volume controls are located on one side, along with an ADD button for connecting more than one SoundBox Pro and the mode button for changing the LED lights. The power/Bluetooth buttons and the BASS BOOST button are located on the opposite end.

You have a wide range of options when it comes to inputs with the SoundBox Pro. These include a 1/8-inch AUX port, Bluetooth, and even an SD card.

What You Will Receive

  • DOSS SoundBox Pro
  • Charging cable
  • 1/8-inch AUX

Conclusion

One of the underdogs in the market for waterproof Bluetooth speakers is the SoundBox Pro. This is one of those inexpensive speakers that you might dismiss because it’s a low-cost model, but it’s actually a really excellent Bluetooth speaker. The SoundBox Pro is the best affordable Bluetooth speaker you can find for under $50. This is a fantastic little speaker with high-quality features at a reasonable cost.

9. DarkBlue Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Specs & Features

Power10 W
Battery15 Hours
WaterproofIPX6
Bluetooth33 ft

The DarkBlue Portable Bluetooth Speaker is another excellent waterproof Bluetooth speaker that is within budget. The speaker costs less than $50 and is constructed more robustly than the majority of low-cost Bluetooth speakers. The DarkBlue has an IPX6 waterproof rating, which means it can withstand water jets but not total submersion.

The DarkBlue has two 5W drivers and a passive bass radiator in the back for a total power output of 10W. For a 10W speaker, the speaker is remarkably loud; it could easily fill a small room. Although DarkBlue advertises that this Bluetooth speaker has enhanced bass, the extra bass is not as noticeable when compared to more expensive models. The mids and highs are distinct, but when the speaker gets too loud, there is some audible distortion in this range. Even so, this speaker is superior to most sub-$50 speakers.

Inputs and Controls

The speakerphone on the DarkBlue can sound a little distant, muffled, and occasionally has a little echo.

The DarkBlue supports 1/8-inch AUX and Bluetooth inputs. Any Bluetooth device that has been paired with the speaker can be controlled using the 5-button panel that is located there. Play/pause, call answer/end/reject, volume up/track forward, volume down/track backward, and on/off power buttons are among the buttons. Switching between Bluetooth and AUX can also be done with the call button.

The built-in DarkBlue battery lasts for 15 hours, which is more than enough for a full day of use. The speaker has a carabiner clip that enables you to hang the DarkBlue in the shower or clip it to a backpack.

What You Will Receive

  • DarkBlue Portable Bluetooth Speaker
  • Micro USB charging cable
  • 1/8-inch AUX cable

Conclusion

A fantastic waterproof Bluetooth speaker is the DarkBlue Portable Bluetooth Speaker. With a price of just under $50, it offers excellent value. Despite being a cheap speaker, IPX6 waterproof protection is still provided. It’s an excellent option if you’re on a tight budget because it’s surprisingly loud considering its size and cost.
